I am also a successful administrator of websites, I have administrated several online communities over the years, at the moment I own two domains. One of them is called Dark Bit Factory (a programming help forum for people who want to make all sorts of applications), the other one is called Retro Remakes, this site is focussed on converting graphic demonstrations from machines of years ago to run on Windows machines!

During the administration of the comunities down the years, I have had to deal with many things that have gone wrong with the sites, such as hacking attempts and general maintanence, they are both interesting hobbies and the Dark Bit Factory site especially helps a lot of people who are looking to improve thier programming skills.

The Dark Bit Factory!

There is no other community like it!

THE DARK BIT FACTORY!

This forum has become a place where people with a wide range of skills, ranging from complete novice to advanced can come and learn and share thier knowledge in a friendly environment. There are people ranging from first time programmers to games industry professionals registered and contributing to the forum. I put the success of the site down to some really hard work to get it off the ground, and also a great bunch of members who really help each other out. It's not a community I make money out of, but it has furthered my knowledge greatly as I have had to really pull out all the stops in order to answer the huge variety of questions from forum users. Luckily I have been able to appoint a small team of moderators to help me cope with the site so it doesn't take up too much time, the team I have selected have a nice range of skills. The community has nearly 500 members, and covers (amongst others) the following programming languages: C#, C++, Freebasic, Assembly language (multiple platforms) , Purebasic , Games console programming (PS2, Gameboy, GP2X, Gameboy Advance) - Delphi, Pascal - Java + Javascript - Cobra - Blitz (all versions) - Yabasic I run regular programming challenges on the forum for the members. You can visit the site by clicking the picture on the left.

Retro Remakes.Net.

This place was created as a kind of museum for Amiga demos with a difference. The difference is that they run on Windows, this is not an easy job as the original graphics and sound have to be taken from the original program and then the program completely re-written to run on Windows. It is very rewarding to see an intro from 20 years ago running perfectly on modern hardware though! As the amount of conversions on line approaches 100, I have come to realise that they are out growing the framework in place, so I have designed a custom web portal for this site, I am working on it with a friend and it will be online some time in the Summer of 2008!
